The northern region of Denmark faces – like many other regions in the country – a challenge concer-ning the struggle to keep young people in the youth education programmes. The project aims towards upgrading and optimizing the mutual understan-ding and cooperation between the education institutions of the region.

Cooperation in an educational network

Like most of the Danish regions, Region North is facing the challenge of retaining young people in post-secondary education. The purpose of the project is to upgrade and improve the understanding of and the cooperation between the educational institutions of the region (technical schools, centre for ungdommens uddannelsesvejledning (centre for youth educational guidance), VUC (centre for adult education), AOF (Workers' Educational Association), etc.) where the target group is young people who are about to start a vocational training.

Task

MillerQuest supplements to the first module of the project with professional presentations of the learning processes and subsequent design and management of a development process based on an appreciative way of thinking with focus on the retention of young people in the educational system. The goal is a fundamental attachment in practice and a lateral network where the participants (teachers and instructors) obtain insight into and experience in theories and tools in order to strengthen the educational work in the long term. During the day, it turns out that one of the participation groups does generally not feel that their group is taken into account in the project.

Solution

The risk that the participation group is disrupted even further makes it necessary to focus on the alienated participation group in addition to the professional presentations and management of the development process. This means special care of their way of thinking through a number of specific measures such as questions for their field, extra professional material and exemplification of common professional material through their professional practice.

Result

This small special treatment in the planning gives a good debate and committed participants across the fields not at the expense of the individual but in interaction with and in continuation hereof.

Learning

Nursing is important but must of course not get out of hand with the result that others feel ignored.
